Who We Are

When Matthew realized that he didn't fit the mold of stylists at other salons, he decided to open up his own. He felt like he wasn't able to utilize his full potential as an artist, thus, Splat was born. This opened up the door for like minded people to feel free to express themselves creatively without judgment. Splat started with just 1 stylist and now has seven passionate employees. At Splat, we have continued to grow with the services we provide which include hair (cuts, colors, extensions, etc.) massage, and nails. We offer salon quality hair products as well.

How Splat has impacted the community:

The pandemic of 2020 was a very trying time for everyone and at Splat we feel as though we helped our clients cope by providing at-home root touch-up kits as well as delivering hair care products. Being able to look their best helped many people get through the pandemic and boosted their self confidence. Splat has participated in various downtown Ashland events including trick or treating, providing free back to school haircuts, and the bicentennial festival (Splat colored children's hair). We have also donated many hair care gift baskets with gift cards to various Ashland businesses for their events. At Splat, we have the opportunity to impact the community one person at a time. Every single day we are impacting our clients lives by helping them with their confidence and to feel better about themselves. We often get clients that have been struggling with their hair and dislike who they see in the mirror. Our stylists are caring and strive to give their clients the hair they've always wanted. And let's not forget about physically making our clients feel better through massage! Our massage therapist, Derrick Bowersock LMT, has been providing massage for over 11 years and is incredibly passionate about his work and strives to reduce any pain his clients have been having. Derrick understands that it is important to work with difficult schedules so he makes sure to accomodate the times clients may need such as early morning or late at night.

In what ways has your company/organization promoted the Ashland Community and surrounding areas?

In Ashland, we really feel a sense of community, especially with our downtown Ashland neighbors. Many of us at Splat support the surrounding businesses every day, and we have many clients that work at these businesses as well! We frequent the restaurants and have used multiple downtown Ashland businesses for Splat merchandise. With the services we provide, we also get a lot of clients coming from different cities and we always recommend the cute shops and amazing restaurants. We offer a 10% discount if you bring in your receipt from another downtown Ashland business! It really feels great to support our neighbors and have them support us in return. Another major way Splat has impacted our community and surrounding areas would be through education about the LGBTQIA+ community. Matthew has had a positive impact on so many people by supporting them and helping them understand that they can do or be anything they desire. There have also been many people that don't understand this community but by asking questions they have been able to gain perspective through someone else's eyes and the struggles you can't see on the surface. Splat has also been sponsoring the Love On A Mission galas, a non-profit organization that helps support LGBTQIA+ kids that have been disowned by family. We have also helped make wigs for cancer patients during a time when self identity has been taken from them and we can give them back that confidence. We also make wigs for our transgender clients to help them feel comfortable in their own skin.

Splat has been a small business for over 10 years and we are continuing to grow every day. Our employees are all incredibly passionate about what they do and strive to improve the lives of our clients every day. We feel that we provide excellent and friendly customer service to all by providing a safe space to be their authentic selves. We take pride in being one of the only LGBTQIA+ friendly salons in Ashland. We welcome all that come through our door no matter race, religion, gender, or age. We have a strong, positive impact on our community every day and are honored to be a part of the Ashland Chamber.
